Susan Aitken

Susan Aitken is a self-taught mosaic and watercolor artist who loves to try new things and break all the rules (and break glass and plates while she’s at it) to create beauty out of what’s available. She is often found at the Carnegie Artist Studios in Tecumseh playing hooky from her day job. Her latest discovery, duct tape art, keeps her creative mind highly entertained in front of the TV at night. Susan has had numerous solo shows of watercolors and abstract mosaics, and her work is found in public and private collections throughout the U.S. and Japan.

Susan has studied under professional Ann Arbor artists Mark Schroll (painting) and Haley Alcock (stained glass mosaics). With their encouragement to experiment, and inspiration from the casual spirit of Fauvist painter Raoul Dufy and the color and composition of landscape artist Wolf Kahn, she has developed her own free style of expression. She has had numerous solo shows of watercolors and abstract mosaics in Ann Arbor, and her work is found in public and private collections throughout the U.S. and Japan.
